After a long and winding road twin sensations Jen and Sylvia
Soska are cracking open the trunk and delivering dead hookers onto your
doorstep. After nearly two years of playing the festival and one off screening
circuit their long awaited feature debut DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK is available on
DVD from the juggernauts at IFC Films. John and Jane Q Public now
have the chance to catch the movie that launched a million raves on horror
blogs throughout the world!
Despite scraping together a budget from recycled Molson cans
and whatever change fell through the couch cushion, the sisters put out one
hell of a cinematic thrill ride. It’s a fantastic mash up of horror, action and
exploitation movies. The sisters were also keenly aware that one could create
the B-Movie equivalent of The Godfather
but if no one heard of it, it wouldn’t mean a damn thing. The twosome
tirelessly worked social media, plugging every festival appearance, linking to
every review and personally keeping fans abreast of any news regarding the
film. They also lent their tireless efforts in promoting Women in Horror Month with an annual blood drive and music video to promote the cause. While few posses the boundless energy of Jen and Sylvia (and to be fair
there is TWO of them), many film makers could learn a hell of a lot from them when
it comes to promoting their work without coming off as annoying hucksters.
With production ongoing with their follow up American Mary,
the Soskas are proving to be a name horror fans have to pay attention to.
