Happy Thanksgiving from All Things Horror

I’ll keep this brief, as it’s been a few weeks since I’ve written anything (a double whammy of horror burnout and an itch to play video games until the wee hours of the night taking its toll on the site) but I’d like to wish our readers and their families a happy Thanksgiving. Halloween may be the horror nerd’s Super Bowl but for overall awesomeness, there’s no better Holiday than today. It’s Christmas without the terrible music and the stress that comes with elbowing through crowded shopping plazas in order to buy useless junk that no one needs. Today is simply about sharing a great meal with family and friends and relaxing with football on the big screen. Since everyone loves lists, here’s a quick loo at what makes the horror hound in me happy:

It bears repeating that I’m thankful to anyone that’s ever read our site.

I’m thankful that there’s national site like Brutal As Hell and BadAss Digest that deliver horror/genre news and opinion without the whiff of payola reeking off the screen nor the jaded delivery of a staff that no longer gives a damn. It makes my daily reading much more enjoyable.

Thanks to all the filmmakers who have allowed us to screen their work. It’s good to know that in a landscape littered with uninspired dreck splashed across 3,000 screens there still are those looking to push boundaries and challenge their audience.

I’m thankful that Netflix Instant gives me access to hundreds, no, thousands of good to middling to “dear God why am I watching this I should just go to bed” horror movies at my fingertips at any given moment. Reed Hastings has gotten a ton wrong this year and must have failed Public Relations 101 but there’s been a slew of fun horror added throughout the year.

Though the quality might be all over the map (we’re looking at you The Walking Dead), television seems to be the new home for horror with Supernatural, Dexter, American Horror Story, The Vampire Diaries  & TWD scratching an itch with a weekly fix of terror. This is especially relevant since we’ve seen stretches from April to August where horror was ignored at the box office.

I’m thankful that Hammer Studios is making a comeback, but if they screw up The Woman in Black I may have to close the door on the relationship.

I’m thankful that killer podcasts like Horror Etc keep me awake behind the wheel when I’m making the long drive home from client visits. Congrats on 200+ episodes gentlemen.

Finally, thanks to my site partner Chris for all the work he puts in to make All Things Horror what it is.
